Lightroom

I've been playing around with a new program called Lightroom. Basically it's made to help your photo workflow, basically it speeds up your time editing photos and the metadata attached to them. You can also select multiple photos at time and apply the same editing to all of them or go through individually and adjust them. Hands down this program is great, I'm still learning how to operate it but so far I'm loving it. A really neat feature to Lightroom is you can have presets that can be applied to your photos, the second neat feature is that all editing is non-destructive which basically means that your originals are not messed with, the third neat feature is that you can import other peoples presets. I've been downloading a few and have come to like a couple in particular. In the photos above the one on top is edited with a preset that is called "crayon" The one on the bottom is straight out of my camera no adjustments. You can get your own copy of these presets from this website. The main site I found that has oodles and oodles of free presets for Lightroom are at this website. I love it when nice peoples on the internet put everything in one place for ya!

Ustream.TV

I've decided to add a Ustream.tv video feed to my site. Basically what this does is it allows me to stream video to the internet/webpage from my EEE pc laptop. I was trying this out earlier while talking to my brother and it seems to work very well. Since this laptop has very limited harddrive space, this works out for the best. I can stream and record to the net and ustream saves it for me. No wasted space on my laptop :) Technology really amazes me sometimes! I now have better ways to share my thoughts and better ways to show off my son :P Check back often, you'll never know when I'll be streaming live! FLIP!

I'm a crawling, can't ya see...

It's so amazing to see Landyn, moving around the way he does. He still is doing the backwards crawl but he's moving around really good. He likes to turn circles when he plays in the floor. Usually this is because I've surrounded him with toys and he just wants to play with everything he can.

The first set of pictures I have to share are from last week. He was playing in the floor and I got down on my belly and snapped off a few shots of him crawling backwards :)

The second set are of Landyn and Tammy from tonight. She had him in the floor playing so I took a few from behind then got in the floor in front of them and took pictures of him playing with her empty cup! That boy is such a mess! So on to the links...

I do believe that's all for now. I was telling Tammy tonight that I'd love to get a lens for my camera that I've been eye-balling lately. It's really good for low light or indoor shots and it's what's called "fast" glass and you rarely need to use a flash for it. It's a Nikkor 50mm f1.8d, this is a fixed focal length lens which means there is no zoom. Plus on my camera it would be 100% manual focus because it doesn't have a motor in the lens to autofocus. That's no big deal, it just makes you slow down and take extra special care and time to adjust the focus and all your other settings before snapping off pics. The best thing about this lens, besides that it is probably one of the best Nikkor lenses, is it's only around $100. Can't beat that with a stick! While I'm mentioning photography and stuff, I've started listening to a new podcast that's dedicated to photography. It's a spinoff from one of Leo Laporte's shows, a few of his pundits/hosts have started it and so far it's been really good. I think they are only up to about the 5th or 6th episode but they have shared some really good information and discussed good topics. The name of the show is TwiP or This week in Photograpy. Wow... is this thing small or what?

I ordered me one this weekend and it came in the mail on Tuesday afternoon. Comes preinstalled with a version of Linux, but I have more mobile things to hook up to this little champ. So I loaded up a copy of XP that I had laying around and am truly amazed at the size, functionality, and ease of use this thing puts out. I'm actually typing out this post with it and other than the keys being a tiny bit on the small side, it's quite excellent! Let's see, a quick list of features... it has standard for the 4g model... 4gb solid state drive for a hard drive and that thing is plenty fast, 512mb of ram, 900mhz intel low power processor, 3 usb 2.0 ports, vga out, ethernet port, built-in wifi, sd/sdhc card reader, and a webcam built-in right above the screen. Amazing! and with all that the unit is about the size of a paperback book when closed. Well, that's all for now, I've pictures to post very soon (tomorrow I hope) of Landyn crawling around a little bit :) FLIP!

Baby update...

Just a quick note about Landyn...

The other day we noticed that he had a whitish color on his lips and inside his mouth. Tammy called the Nurse line and they asked her a bunch of questions and told us that... he almost certainly has Thrush.

Now I've not heard of it but lots of people have, just about everyone I've told :P So anyways, the Doctor gave us a prescription of a liquid that we've got to give him 4 times a day for the next 7 days. Other than that he's his usual happy baby self! and that's always good.

Wow I'm so bad for posting that last link so late... They've been on my other camera and I've just not hooked that thing up to this computer to download and upload to Picasa. Anywho that's all for now... oh and one last bit before I'm off... I've found a new podcast and am really digging it. It's from Adam Curry who used to be on MTV as a VJ way back in the day. Well it seems that this dude was heavy in the tech from the get go. Essentially, he pretty much created podcasting! Plus, he's known as the PodFather! So if you like to hear a pretty good show, cause basically that's what it is.. he plays music takes callers and talks about whatever he wants. His show is called Daily Source Code. He also does a show called No Agenda with John C. Dvorak, it's another great show where they just talk about recent news and make comments. Good stuff! All for now, FLIP!
